The purpose of the CoDA Serenity Pages newsletter is to not only inform, but also to encourage spirituality, communication, and unity among CoDA members. It is also to carry the CoDA message to other co-dependents who still suffer.
The content of this newsletter - unless otherwise noted - is not endorsed by National CoDA or the Greater Omaha CoDA Service Group. They are only each writer's personal opinions or experiences.
All are encouraged to share their experience, strength, and hope in the form of stories, poems, book reviews, article submissions, etc. (no matter how new or old you are to the program).

A Message from your Service Board Chair:
Hello to everyone in the CoDA community - just wanted to give you all a quick update as to this year's theme and goals for us all.
The CoDA Service Board (your group representatives) met and through the group conscience method came up with these goals to keep in mind through the year:
- UNITY: remember to support and help all CoDA groups, as we are able, all the while placing principles before personalities
- HELPING NEWCOMERS: as individuals and a group, our primary purpose is to carry the message to other codependents - this includes the newcomer. This doesn't mean overwhelming a newcomer with too much but only to greet them and make them feel welcome...they can make their own decision as to whether CoDA is for them.
- DOING SERVICE WORK: "Giving Back" - service work begins with greeting newcomers, helping out in a meeting (set up/making coffee/cleaning up, etc.). The next step, after 6 months of recovery, one can choose to chair a meeting or assist by taking a group service position (GSR, treasurer, literature, etc.). After time, choices are available for community service positions and even at the national level! Remember, you'll know when it's time to stretch your wings!
Lastly, the CoDA board chose "You Don't Grow if you Don't Go" as this year's theme. At the beginning of my recovery I needed the meetings and felt I had to go. Now, I want to go and, believe it or not, I go especially when I feel on top of the world because that is when I am most tempted to 'forget' and start trying to do it on my own, without help from my Higer Power and the 12 steps.
Have a fantastic voyage in 2003!
In service,
CJ T. (Chair)
- Anyone wishing to purchase a CoDA Book ($15.25), please contact Sharon F.: 391-7302 or WabbitLuvy@aol.com
- Please remember to bring in your 7th tradition meeting donations to the montly service meeting. The formula is 80% to the 12-Step house and 20% to the CoDa service group. Each group should keep a prudent reserve of $10-$15 for individual meeting expenses such as chips, literature, etc.
