The purpose of the CoDA Serenity Pages newsletter is to not only inform, but also to encourage spirituality, communication, and unity among CoDA members. It is also to carry the CoDA message to other co-dependents who still suffer.

The content of this newsletter - unless otherwise noted - is not endorsed by National CoDA or the Greater Omaha CoDA Service Group. They are only each writer's personal opinions or experiences.

All are encouraged to share their experience, strength, and hope in the form of stories, poems, book reviews, article submissions, etc. (no matter how new or old you are to the program).

GETTING TO KNOW YOU!

The “Getting to Know You!” section will focus on a different CoDA member each moth. This way we can get to know one another better!
Danielle S.

  • Q: How long have you been in CoDA?
  • A: I've been in CoDA for 3 years.

  • Q: What was the best advice you ever received in the program?
  • A: Someone visited with me about letting people love me in the way that they were able, not in the way that I expected. That was a powerful message for me and helped me to resolve a lot of resentments towards my family and friends.

  • Q: What is your favorite of the 12 steps?
  • A: My favorite step is step 3 because of the powerful way it happened for me. One night I was driving home from a meeting, and as usual, I was crying my eyes out. I think this was while my husband and I were separated or just shortly after he moved back in, but I had just found out about all of the things he had done and I was a wreck. I was having it out with God when I finally said, "fine you want this crap, it's all yours" and realized at that moment I was driving across the bridge that spans the Platte River just before getting into Louisville. When I got to the other side I felt like this huge weight had been lifted from me and I felt at peace for the first time in years. It was an amazing experience to have it happen so symbolically.

  • Q: Is there anything you’d like to share with newcomers?
  • A: This program works, but it requires a lot of willingness and hard work. No one can do it for you.

  • Q: Who inspires you and why?
  • A: I had the opportunity to work with the UNO softball team in 2001, the year they won the National Championship. This was during a really difficult personal time for me, but the players on that team truly inspired me because they demonstrated on a daily basis what it meant to be real champions. Every single person accepted their role, whether it was being a practice player or a star pitcher. Every single person gave their all throughout the season - even during the trying times. It was an amazing group of women and they had a tremendous impact on my life. I still draw today on the lessons I learned that spring.

  • Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
  • A: I would go to Australia since I've wanted to visit there ever since I was little.

  • Q: What do you do to center yourself and find serenity?
  • A: Most often I pray, but if there is something big I also add a trip to the driving range. By the end of hitting a bucket of golf balls, I am usually a little more centered and peaceful. Sometimes it takes the extra large bucket!

  • Q: Do you have a favorite recovery book?
  • A: I don't know if it is truly considered a recovery book, but I used it in my recovery. "Lord, Heal My Hurts" by Kay Arthur
